BYC North East Qualifiers 2025
The British Youth Championship Finals (BYCs) is a 24-event competition held by British Fencing (BF), with events in each weapon at U12, U14, U16 and U18 age categories. Fencers have the opportunity to qualify for the BYCs National Finals through Regional Qualifying Events (RQEs).
The North East and Yorkshire regions are combining to enable a qualifier competition to run. The epee and sabre competitions are taking place
Date: 15th February 2025
Venue: Darlington Dolphin Centre leisure centre.
Age groups: U12 – Born 2013 or 2014, U14 – Born 2011 or 2012, U16 – Born 2009 or 2010, U18 – Born 2007 or 2008
Weapons: Epee, Sabre
A timetable will be published nearer the competition when entries are confirmed.
The format for the qualifier is 2 rounds of poules with regions combined and then fencers will be split into representatives in their nominated region as specified on the fencers Sport 80 British Fencing membership for the direct elimination. Age groups and genders may be combined in the poule stages depending on numbers.
The entry fee to the Regional Qualifier only covers that competition cost and the British Fencing entrant levy. Qualified fencers who wish to fence in the finals in Sheffield, will be contacted and charged a further entry fee directly by British Fencing.
RULES & GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS 3.1 ELIGIBILITY
Fencers may only enter the RQE in the Region they have specified on their BF Membership. Fencers may only fence in one qualifying event in one Region per season.
Fencers must be UK residents and entries will only be accepted via the Regions.
All fencers, both in the BYC National Finals and the RQEs must be members of BF and meet all the eligibility criteria outlined above. Any fencer found to have competed in a RQE without the appropriate membership, or who fails to meet the eligibility criteria, are liable to be disqualified from the Finals event. If the disqualification affects the number of qualifiers the number of qualifiers will be reduced accordingly. If the disqualified fencer was one of the qualifiers the fencer may NOT be replaced by the next ranked entrant. No refunds will be made to disqualified fencers.
Date for the BYC Finals is : Saturday 3rd – Monday 5th May 2025 Venue: EIS Sheffield, Coleridge Road, Sheffield, S9 5DA The schedule for each day of the competition including which days for each age group/weapon will be published by the latest, 18th January 2025.
