2nd Right Duncan Rowlands

This week has been the Veterans World Championships in Stalsund in Germany where the top fencers over the age of 50 take part in their specialist weapon. 3 fencers from the North East and also representing Laszlo's Fencing Club were selected for team GB. Duncan Rowlands for O50 Sabre, Anton Pollard in the O60 Epee and Carole Seheult in the O70s Epee.

For Duncan it was his first World Championships having moved into this age category. In the individual event he finished in 13th place loosing to William Becker from the USA and eventual silver medalist.  In the team event he and fellow members went through to the final beating Spain and then Russia to meet Italy for the gold. Italy were fielding two gold and a silver medalist so it was going to be a tough match but eventually lost 30-21!

Carole Seheult came 8th in the Over 70s Epee and Anton Pollard came 22nd in the Over 60s Epee

Veterans fencing is for anybody over the age of 40 and is a great way to keep fit mentally and physically!
