The dust has just settled in Glasgow for the Summer Commonwealth Games, fencing's equivalent level competition has just had its closing ceremony!

The Commonwealth Fencing Championships are the highlight of the sport every four years and until 1970, part of the main summer Games.

This tournament saw 14 fencers from the NE Region competing in both the senior and veteran (40+) events.  The first medal was for Stuart Scott from West Cornforth near Durham taking the Bronze in the Men's Sabre Teams closely followed by Duncan Rowlands who achieved the sabre team  gold in the veteran men's sabre!

It wasnt until the last day of the senior championship that Beth Davidson from Darlington and England Team Manager could collect the overall trophy called the Wilkinson Sword, confirming England as the greatest Commonwealth team in its history!
