Newcastle Fencing Club coach Iain Aberdeen completed the huge challenge and completed the equivalent of 5 marathons in hot dessart in the Marathon des Sables on Friday 11th April.

Iain took up this the Sahara desert challenge is in aid of two North East based charities: the Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman and Newcastle Fencing and Sports Trust.

This has been over a year in the planning, requiring intense training to attempt one of the hardest foot races in the world!
